Final Assessment information
Tuesday May 24th, the students will receive their final assessment package in the classroom. The assessment is now posted on this page. The package will be due from Monday, June 6th till Wednesday, June 8th.
Life Sciences 11 – Final Assessment
Below you will find a variety of major questions that cover the animal kingdom, ecology and some extra. You will notice that there is a given maximum mark for each question for a total of 300 points. You will notice that some of the questions are in bold. These are questions that must be completed. If you wish to try get the best possible mark, answer every question. By doing just the 7 questions required and acing them, you would get a mark in the proficient range. In doing more or all of the questions or being very creative in how you answer your questions, you bring in the possibility of scoring in the extending range. Good luck
1.Invertebrates – Choose at least 1
a.Describe the evolutionary changes that occur as you move across the following invertebrates – sponge, jelly fish, flat worm, tape worm.
(may use a table to compare them highlighting changes) (40)
b.Compare the following phyla, Annelida, Mollusca, Echinodermata and Arthropoda with regards to the following : Feeding and Digestion, Gas exchange/respiration, Excretion, Skeleton and Support, Responses/Nervous System, Internal circulation and Reproduction. (80)
2.Vertebrates – Do the 2 bolded questions plus 2 others
a.Describe adaptations that the following fish have that allow them to be successful in the sea – lamprey, shark, stone fish. (20)
b.What adaptations does a frog have to live both in the water and on land? Please include both the tadpole stage and the adult stage. (20)
c.Select four features of reptiles illustrating developmental advances over amphibians that you anticipate will continue to exist, possibly becoming further developed, as more advanced animals are considered. Describe the advantage of each one. (40)
d.The First Nations peoples relate special qualities or characteristics to many birds such as eagles, herons and ravens. Describe the special attributes of the three different types of birds. (20)

- Give the list of all of the orders of mammals and the defining characteristic for each one. (20)
- Describe a traditional technique used by the First Nations to hunt and fish. Please include pictures or diagrams with your explanations. Please mention what time of year that these practices are done as well. (20)
Extra – Do both questions
- Choose 5 animals from 5 different Phyla that are poisonous. Explain whether the poison, toxin or venom is used for hunting or protecting. Also explain what that poison does to the other animal that it is either attacking or defending . (20)
- Describe what a sea critter must overcome in order to move onto the land permanently. (20)
